Office Emergencies

Our Waiting room is bright, colorful and inviting for our patients. Our goal is to make everyone as comfortable as possible

Children get sick or injured at the least opportune times. No one plans on their child's illness or injury happening. It's comforting to realize that we're here whenever a sudden illness or injury occurs.

Types of Emergencies We Handle

  • Office Based Daytime Emergencies
  • After Hour Office Based Emergencies
  • Hospital Based Emergencies

What To Do In An Emergency

If you have a life threatening emergency, call the Hospital Phone Number at (307) 742-2141 and push #2222 to speak to the Emergency Room. You can also call #911 and have Emergency Services help you manage the emergency.

If you have an emergency that is not life threatening, call our office phone number day or night, (307) 745-3704. During the daytime we will assess the nature of the emergency and help guide you whether or not it's appropriate to be seen in the office. If it is an emergency we can handle, we will have you come immediately to the office. We will see your child as soon as you arrive and treat the problem immediately.

After-office emergencies that are not life threatening can also be seen in the office. Call the same office number, 24 hours a day, (307) 745-3704 and Dr. Kleppinger will discuss the emergency with you and if appropriate, see your child in the office. Many after-hours medical problems can be seen sooner in the office, for less expense and in a more comfortable surrounding than at the Hospital's Emergency Room. If the after-hour emergency is more appropriate to see at the Hospital Emergency Room, Calling Dr. Kleppinger at the office phone number can allow him to meet you at the Emergency Room and give appropriate Pediatric care there.

Pediatric Emergencies We treat in the Office

Asthma Attacks and Wheezing
We treat Asthmatics and other Wheezing problems effectively in the office. We can do Breathing treatments or Nebulization Treatments the same as in the Emergency Room.
Cuts and Lacerations
Most cuts and Lacerations can be handled easily in the office. We also have Derma bond, a skin "glue" that doesn't require shots or stitches and in smaller lacerations is as effective as stitches to treat a wound.
Fevers and Infections
Many of the illnesses that cause children to run high fevers can be effectively treated in the office.
Possible Broken Bones or Fractures
Many injuries that appear at first to be broken bones are easily seen and treated in the office. For injuries where bones are not broken, we can splint or tape the injury; when fractures do occur, we can refer the injury directly to Orthopedic Surgeons for evaluation and not have to go through the Emergency Room.
Abdominal Pain
Most cases of abdominal pain don't require a surgeon to treat them. We are able to help decide if a case needs surgical treatment and refer them directly to a surgeon to be treated, or treat the other causes of the pain in the office.
Possible Child Abuse
Nearly all cases of child abuse or suspicions of abuse can be effectively treated in the office and often are less emotionally scary for the child to be seen in our office.
